In Transpac 2011, Celerity was in the lead after five days of racing and on pace to finish in a blistering ten days. First to Catalina, first to the wind, and right where we wanted to be relative to the North Pacific high, we were in position to win the race when we turned SW to 235 degrees, hoisted the A2 spinnaker, and went to our strength: the downwind leg of the race. But the sprit, breaking within three seconds of the hoist, shattered our hopes of winning the race and our hearts. The crew voted to continue to Hawaii and was the 24th boat to cross the finish line.
